We've been trying to teach the kidlet about giving throughout the season. We picked out some of our stuffed animals and sent them with hundreds of others from our area to Hurricane Katrina victims....Donated to the Boy Scout food drive when they came through the neighborhood...put change in the Salvation Army kettle and of course bought and made gifts for our family. He's really been excited about it. Love it!
So this morning we turned on the TV, the CBS Early Show was on. Not something we usually watch. They were talking about Wishes for Kids, a toy drive for Hurricane Katrina victims put on by the United Way and Walmart.
Connor turns to me and says, "Mama, I wanna do that."
"I think it's too late sweetie. Let's watch."
But it wasn't too late. Walmart has an online registry of toys that you can purchase and they will ship directly to the United Way. Just the other day we recieved a gift card for Walmart in the mail Christmas. Serendipity.
"Do you want to use the gift card Aunt Susan sent to buy a toy for the toy drive?"
"Yeah! The penguin one!" (the gift card has a penguin on it.)
We got online and picked out a set of books for kids his age and bought it and there's still enough money left for him to buy something he wants.
So proud of him. This is what Christmas is.
